7. PUBLIC HEARING <br />A. 885 Woodside Road: Zoning Map Amendment and Revised Precise Plan for a 43 <br />Unit Condominium Project <br />Senior Planner Riordan explained the project as revised. <br />Gerry Yates, project architect, explained details of revisions from the original <br />proposal. He noted specific concerns that have been addressed. <br />Randy Lam thanked staff and all who have combined to bring the new proposal <br />forward. <br />Mayor Pierce opened the public hearing. <br />Pat Becker spoke in favor of the resultant proposal, commending Council on <br />listening to the concerns previously expressed and being responsive. She stated <br />that it has been a great process and that it now a much better project. <br />Nora Zappas, representing the Greenbelt Alliance, encouraged Council approval of <br />the project because it will enhance the pedestrian experience. She stated that the <br />development will contribute by providing attractive compact homes in an ideal infill <br />location and much needed affordable housing. The residents will be located near <br />retail, the development contributions include sidewalks in the area, hidden parking, <br />and a public fountain. <br />Council comments and discussion ensued that included thanking the Hampton Oaks <br />neighborhood and Mr. Lam for working together to find common ground and <br />consensus for a better project. Appreciation was expressed to Caltrans for working <br />with the City toward solutions in such instances and into the future. Questions were <br />asked pertaining to "green building" and living wage provision. Mayor Pierce <br />provided statistics of housing needs in the city and surrounding community. She <br />further explained what Redwood City has done and will be working toward. <br />M/S Ira /Bain to close the public hearing. The motion passed by a unanimous <br />voice vote. <br />Recommendation: <br />M/S Aguirre /Ira: <br />1. Introduce an Ordinance amending Article 60, Zoning Map No 7 (Oakwood <br />Neighborhood) of Ordinance No. 1130, the Redwood City Zoning Ordinance, as <br />Amended, to rezone the real property that comprises the 885 Woodside Road <br />Precise Plan Area from the existing CG -R (General Commercial - Residential <br />Combining) zoning district to P (Planned Community District).
