no supervision. The Department is reviewing applications, and is confident that a
candidate will be brought on board in January 2008. Also in January, a part-time data
entry clerk will be hired to assist staff in building a new commercial fire inspection
database.

7C
Page 2

Implementation of the plan began in December with Fire Prevention Personnel
conducting commercial occupancy inspections during their normal day off. Depending
upon the complexity of the business, an inspector can conduct an average of five
commercial occupancy inspections per week. This is only one component of the plan
alreadyiJi ptaceand functioning. Full implementation is expected to occur in January
2008, and will include the remaining aforementioned staffing measures (Operations
personnel on overtime basis and/or a civilian fire safety inspector).

Of the 630 occupancies that require a fire permit, approximately 40% (252) have
already been inspected in 2007 utilizing current fire prevention staff. These inspections
include places of assembly (restaurants, halls, theaters, etc.), service stations, and a
number of repair shops and manufacturing plants. It is estimated that the remaining 378
inspections, approximately 60%, will be completed by June of 2008. This projection is
based on an assumption that three personnel will each devote one full day per week to
inspections. Therefore, this will average five inspections per person, or a total of fifteen
per week. This projection does not include the necessary re-inspection of many of the
occupancies that will require follow-up visits to ensure code compliance.

Commercial Occupancy Inspection Plan for Entities with Fire Permits: Timeline

.

.
