MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST - <br /> <br /> A. Colleen Jordan (Council Member) Japan trip report; <br /> This item was removed from thc agenda at this time. <br /> <br /> B. Status of Redwood City Playground Construction; <br /> <br /> Doug Finley, Redwood City School District Board Member, thanked the Council for <br /> support of building playgrounds. He stated that approximately one year ago, he had spoken <br /> before Council and shared that private money had been raised and requested matching funds <br /> from the City to complete the construction of playgrounds at the schools. He stated a total <br /> of $1.5 million was raised, $500,000.00 coming from the City, $750,000.00 from <br /> individuals and $250,000.00 from the State. He stated 17 playgrounds have been built with <br /> 4 more to be built. He further stated that a great consortium of 1,500 various volunteers <br /> assisted with the building of approximately 10 playgrounds, reducing costs and allowing for <br /> further development of those playgrounds due to cost savings. <br /> <br /> C. Council Member Howard announced the birth of baby boy Zachary Taylor Bain to former <br /> Council Member Ian Bain and his wife, Nancy on October 11. <br /> <br />9. STUDY SESSION - (404) <br /> <br /> A. Housing and Human Concerns Committee (HHCC) Session on the Human Services <br /> Financial Assistance Program 0tSFA) (informational only); <br /> <br /> Human Services Manager Chin explained that several members of the HHCC and herself <br /> would be doing the presentation portion of the study session. She stated that in April, thc <br /> Committee presented to Council a request for consideration of additional funds for the <br /> 2002-03 HSFA program. Council requested a further needs assessment and return to <br /> Council at a later time in the form of a study session.
