6.E. - Page 2 of 35
continue to reduce the City's carbon footprint. However, no such options exist at this time and there is no
indication as to when to expect them to be available for future purchases. Additionally, no after -market
hybid retrofit options currently are available.
The specifications for this vehicle require the integration of a dump body hoist for the bed of the pick-up
truck that allows the truck to dump debris and material similarto that of a regular dump truck, in a smaller,
more compact scale. This has been a standard feature for these vehicles to accommodate the service
demands of Park operations for many years. In recent years, the manufacturing process for Ford has
changed in that the thickness of the steel used to construct the bed of the Ford F250 trucks has decreased
and no longer complies with the structural requirements of the dump body hoist. However, the Ford
F350's specifications continue to meet the structural needs of the dump body hoist.
On September 30, 2019 a Notice Inviting Sealed Bids was published in The San Mateo Daily Journal with
a submission deadline of 2:30 p.m. on October 23, 2019. Copies of the bid notice were emailed to six local
dealerships with additional copies available at the Public Works office located at 1400 Broadway,
Redwood City, CA 94063. The received bids were opened by the City Clerk on October 23, 2019, and are
summarized in the table below.
Name of Bidder
Unit Cost
Total Cost
Towne Ford
(Redwood City, CA)
$48,641
$194,564
Sales Tax @ 9.75%
$4,742.50
$18,970
Tire Fee
$8.75
$35
Serramonte Ford (Colma, CA)
Hansel Ford (Santa Rosa, CA)
Mission Valley Ford (San Jose, CA)
No Bid Received
No Bid Received
James Ford (Half Moon Bay, CA)
The Ford Store (San Leandro, CA)
Grand total bid amount recommended to Towne Ford of
$213,569
Redwood City, CA
The recommended action is to award the purchase to Towne Ford as they are the lowest responsive and
responsible bidder.
FISCAL IMPACT
Funds in the amount of $213,569 are available in the FY 2019-20 Equipment Replacement Fund Budget
for the purchase of four 2020 Ford F350 Super Duty Regular Cab Pick-up Trucks. This amount will be
subsequently recovered from the operating budget of the user department through vehicle replacement
charges in future years.
City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcity.ore
130
