Text: =Per the Federal lead and copper rule Redwood City conducts sampling every 3 years at customer taps.
=During our last testing in 2018 - 17 of 33 homes had lead detected above the PHG
=When testing for lead The samples are collected in order to detect the highest possible concentrations of lead
- First by targeting high risks homes that are more likely to have lead based solder and copper plumbing, and
- Secondly by grabbing the sample after the water has been sitting in the pipes for more than 6 hours.
=This is because Lead typically enters drinking water through leaching from household plumbing fixtures.
=The legal limit for lead which is called an action level is exceeded when 10% of all samples are above 15 ppb.
- Redwood City results were well below the AL and the average of all samples was 1.6 ppb
- Additionally we notified all homes who had results above the PHG of their results and how they could reduce their risk.
