To meet the legal limit the EPA recognizes Corrosion control as the BAT to reduce lead in drinking water
The SFPUC has implemented this technology by adjusting the pH of water during the water treatment process to make it less corrosive.
and Redwood City routinely monitors the pH to ensure effective corrosion control.
Customers can also reduce their risk from lead in drinking water by:
-using only cold water for cooking and drinking. This is because lead is more likely to leach from plumbing fixtures in hot water.
-customers can also let the cold water run for a few seconds prior to using it to flush water that has been sitting in the pipes and fixtures for a while.
-also Old brass plumbing fixtures can pose a higher lead risk and replacing these fixtures could reduce lead exposure.
-In 2010 California passed a no lead law that requires all plumbing fixtures to be lead free. So, If your fixtures were installed after 2010 there is no need to replace it.
