SECTION 1910 OF THE BUILDING CODE AMENDED: Section <br /> 1910 of the Building Code is hereby amended to read as follows: <br /> Section 1910.1. Concrete Slabs on Grade. This section shall apply to concrete <br /> slabs on grade in construction related to Groups R and U occupancies only. <br /> Section 1910.1.1. Concrete slab floors, garage slabs, and driveways shall have a <br /> minimum thickness of three and one-half (3 1/2) inches and shall be reinforced <br /> with a minimum six (6) inch by six (6) inch by six (6) gauge welded wire fabric or <br /> equivalent area of reinforcing. Welded wire fabric manufactured in mats shall be <br /> used. All reinforcement shall be appropriately supported in order to keep the <br /> reinforcement in the mid-depth of the slab until the completion of the concrete <br /> pour. <br /> Section 1910.2. Under habitable rooms of Groups R occupancies, a vapor barrier <br /> approved by the Building Official shall be installed beneath the concrete slab <br /> floor. Single-ply plastic vapor barriers shall not be used. An approved base <br /> material of suitable consistency, compaction, and thickness shall be provided <br /> directly under the concrete slab vapor barrier to retard capillary action. Two (2) <br /> inches of sand shall be provided between the vapor barrier and the concrete <br /> slab.
