Council amended the ordinance to eliminate the <br />misdemeanor penalty for a violation, leaving the $1,000 civil penalty for a violation. <br />ANALYSIS <br />On December 16, 2019, the City Council by unanimous vote waived the first reading and introduced an <br />ordinance adding Chapter 37A (Safe Storage of Firearms in Residences), as proposed by staff except for <br />the elimination of the misdemeanor criminal penalty. The December 16, 2019, staff report is attached to <br />this report and contains additional background and analysis. <br />An issue raised by the Council during discussion of the proposed ordinance on December 16 was a <br />question regarding the disposition of a firearm that was stored in violation of the ordinance.
