<br />3.3.1.3 Small Hotel
<br />The small hotel has two different baseline equipment systems, one for the nonresidential spaces and one
<br />for the guest rooms. The nonresidential HVAC system includes two gas hot water boilers, four packaged
<br />rooftop units and twelve VAV terminal boxes with hot water reheat coil. The SHW design includes a small
<br />electric water heater with storage tank. The residential HVAC design includes one single zone AC unit with
<br />gas furnace for each guest room and the water heating design includes one central gas storage water
<br />heater with a recirculation pump for all guest rooms.
<br />For the small hotel all -electric design, the Reach Code Team assumed the nonresidential HVAC system to
<br />be packaged heat pumps with electric resistance VAV terminal units, and the SHW system to remain a
<br />small electric resistance water heater.
<br />For the guest room all -electric HVAC system, the analysis used a single zone (packaged terminal) heat
<br />pump and a central heat pump water heater serving all guest rooms. Central heat pump water heating
<br />with recirculation serving guest rooms cannot yet be modeled in CBECC-Com, and energy impacts were
<br />modeled by simulating individual heat pump water heaters in each guest room. The reach code team
<br />believes this is a conservative assumption, since individual heat pump water heaters will have much
<br />higher tank standby losses. The Reach Code Team attained costs for central heat pump water heating
<br />installation including storage tanks and controls and used these costs in the study.
<br />Cost data for small hotel designs are presented in Figure 12. The all -electric design presents substantial
<br />cost savings because there is no hot water plant or piping distribution system serving the nonresidential
<br />spaces, as well as the lower cost of packaged terminal heat pumps serving the residential spaces
<br />compared to split DX/furnace systems with individual flues.
