8.B. - Page 59 of 70 <br />Redwood City Broadway Streetcar/Urban Circulator Study <br />Summary Report <br />Ridership <br />A sketch planning process that took into account the existing <br />and planned future land use densities and the number of <br />employees and residents in the Project Study Area was used <br />to estimate ridership. The results were validated by looking <br />at the magnitude of the ridership attracted by other streetcar <br />systems around the country. Overall their performance was relatively <br />similar, with the exception that the urban circulator would <br />be significantly less costly but would also likely have lower <br />ridership than a streetcar. <br />The streetcar/urban circulator will attract new transit riders <br />and increase transit use by others resulting in reduced <br />vehicle miles of travel (VMT).
