6.D. - Page 2 of 65
Proposer
thyssenkrupp Elevator Corporation (South San Francisco, CA)
$77,171.52
Star Elevator, Inc. (San Carlos, CA)
$48,240.00
Staff contacted references provided by Star Elevator, Inc. and has determined the company to be a
reputable service provider.
The proposal amount is intended to cover scheduled preventative maintenance on all City -owned
elevators and lifts. However, mechanical systems have the potential to malfunction and/or need repairs
at unforeseen intervals requiring additional calls for service. The costs for these types of repairs fluctuate
and are incurred on an as -needed basis, therefore they are not included in either proposal. Based on the
analysis of total expenditures for elevator repairs over the past three years, PWS is requesting an
additional $21,760.00 annually as a contingency to cover urgent response and repair efforts. Therefore,
the total annual allocation under this agreement will be in an amount not to exceed $70,000.00.
Staff recommends approval of a General Services Agreement with Star Elevator, Inc. for one year with
authorization for the City Manager to extend up to three additional one-year terms. Their proposal was
the lowest, and they are a reputable service provider.
FISCAL IMPACT
Funds for this agreement are available in the FY 2019/20 Facilities Maintenance operating budget.
ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW
This activity is not a project under California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) as defined in CEQA
Guidelines, section 15378, because it has no potential for resulting in either a direct or reasonably
foreseeable indirect physical change in the environment.
PUBLIC NOTICE
Public Notification was achieved by posting the agenda, with the agenda items being listed, at least 72
hours prior to the meeting
ALTERNATIVES
The City Council may elect not to award the contract to Star Elevator, Inc. and direct staff to issue a new
request for proposals or develop an alternative approach for providing maintenance.
City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcity.ore
M
