9.6.4 A maternity leave, absent physical disability, is granted without pay for <br />the duration of the leave. The employee may elect to continue medical <br />and dental insurance coverage for up to one (1) year during that leave at <br />her own expense. <br />9.7 Leave for Pregnancy Disability <br />9.7.1 Employees who are working are entitled to use personal illness and <br />injury leave for disabilities caused or contributed to by pregnancy, <br />miscarriage, childbirth, and recovery therefrom on the same terms and <br />conditions governing leaves of absence for other illness or medical <br />disability. Such leave shall not be used for child care, child rearing, or <br />preparation for childbearing, but shall be limited to those disabilities as <br />set forth above. The length of such disability leave, including the date <br />on which the leave shall commence and the date on which the duties are <br />to be resumed, shall be determined by the employee and the employee's <br />physician; however, the Personnel Officer may require a verification of <br />the extent of disability through a physical examination of the employee <br />by a physician appointed by the City at City expense. <br />9.7.2 Employees are entitled to leave without pay or other benefits for <br />disabilities because of pregnancy, miscarriage, childbirth, or recovery <br />therefrom when sick leave has been exhausted. The date on which the <br />employee shall resume duties shall be determined by the employee on <br />leave and the employee's physician; however, the Personnel Officer may <br />require a verification of the extent of disability through a physical <br />examination of the employee by a physician appointed by the City. <br />9.7.3 The employee on leave shall be returned to an equivalent position within <br />her classification. <br />9.8 Absence Notification <br />Failure on the part of an employee to report for duty or notify the designated <br />management official one-half (1/2) hour prior to the employee's scheduled starting <br />time as to a reason why the employee cannot report may subject the employee to <br />disciplinary action. <br />9.9 Bereavement Leave <br />9.9.1 In the event of a death in the immediate family of an employee of the <br />City, that employee shall, upon request, be granted such time off with <br />pay as is necessary to make arrangements for the funeral and attend <br />same, not to exceed three (3) regularly scheduled working days or four <br />(4) days in the event the funeral is 300 or more miles from the City. <br />19 <br />
