provide hospital -medical, life insurance and dental coverage as nearly comparable <br />as possible to the benefits in effect on November 1, 1980, without additional cost <br />to the City or the employees, the City may substitute new insurance carriers. The <br />Association will be given an opportunity to review the coverage afforded under <br />such substitute plans before they are implemented. <br />The City and RCPOA agree that in the event state or federal law changes to the <br />extent that mandates are placed on the City or the level of benefits changes during <br />the term of this MOU, the parties agree to reopen the MOU to meet and confer <br />over such changes or mandates, if either party requests to do so. <br />10.3 Dental <br />The City shall continue to provide to eligible employees and dependents fully <br />paid dental insurance through Delta Dental Fee for Service program or through a <br />mutually agreed upon alternative program through the term of this Agreement. <br />10.4 Life Insurance <br />The City shall continue to offer to eligible employees the life insurance program <br />in effect on February 1, 1974. <br />SECTION 11. PROBATION <br />11.1 New Employees <br />An employee shall serve a probationary period of eighteen (18) months. Upon <br />satisfactory completion of such probationary period, the employee shall be <br />appointed as a regular full-time employee of the City of Redwood City. <br />During the first six (6) months of his or her probationary period, an employee may <br />be required to pass physical agility and endurance tests, written examinations, and <br />other job related subjects. During the last twelve (12) months of the probationary <br />period, an employee may be required to pass periodical written examinations <br />pertaining to all phases of the employee's work. At the conclusion of the <br />probationary period, an employee may be required to pass a written examination <br />and performance test. <br />A probationary employee shall have the opportunity to read and discuss his or her <br />monthly performance report with his or her supervisor before such report becomes <br />part of the employee's employment record. <br />An employee may be separated from the City service at any time during the <br />probationary period without right of appeal or hearing. <br />Any employee appointed to the classification of Police Officer Trainee shall be <br />considered in a training status during the probationary period.
