Trainee who has not completed the required basic P.O.S.T training academy shall <br />be considered a local miscellaneous retirement employee for all purposes and will <br />only be considered a safety retirement member on the first (1st) day he or she is <br />assigned to regular police duties. <br />11.2 Promoted Employees <br />All promotional appointments shall be tentative and subject to a probationary <br />period of twelve (12) months of service from the date of appointment. During the <br />probationary period an employee maybe rejected at any time by the City Manager <br />upon recommendation of the Police Chief. Any regular employee rejected during <br />the probationary period following a promotional appointment shall be reinstated <br />to the position from which he or she was promoted unless conditions warrant his <br />or her dismissal. <br />Upon satisfactory completion of such probationary period, the employee shall be <br />appointed to a regular full-time position in that classification. <br />SECTION 12. PROMOTION <br />12.1 Examination <br />In the event the City desires to fill a vacancy by promotion, the Personnel Officer <br />shall prepare and administer an examination for those employees holding similar <br />positions in lower classes. <br />Promotional examinations scheduled by the City during an employee's regular <br />working hours may be taken without any loss in compensation. <br />12.2 Eligible List <br />The names of the successful qualified candidates shall be recorded on an eligible <br />list. Eligible lists shall continue in effect one (1) year after establishment. The <br />name of any person on an eligible list may be removed by the Personnel Office if <br />the eligible person requests in writing that his or her name be removed, or if he or <br />she fails to respond to a written offer of employment within five (5) business days <br />next succeeding the mailing of notice. <br />If a candidate waives an offer of employment the candidate shall be removed from <br />the eligible list. <br />SECTION 13. RESIGNATION <br />An employee wishing to leave the service of the City in good standing shall file with the <br />Police Chief at least two (2) weeks notice of an intention to leave the service unless the <br />Police Chief consents to the employee's leaving sooner.
