8.A. - Page 53 of 72 <br />Implement Adulting 101: Essential Skills for Life After High School <br />program, including topics such as career planning and work readiness, <br />financial savvy, kitchen basics and easy recipes, personal well-being and <br />home management, and community and volunteerism by October 2019 <br />(LIB) <br />Support low income residents and vulnerable communities by <br />completing an equity audit of Library policies and procedures by <br />December 2019 (LIB) <br />Launch new library programs and activities for seniors, veterans, <br />LGBTQ+ residents, people of color, people with disabilities, and <br />opportunity youth (those aged 16-24 who are not currently in school or <br />employed), and work directly with these populations in the <br />development of new programs and library collections that meet their <br />needs by December 2019 (LIB) <br />Partner with About -Face to deliver empowerment workshops for teen <br />girls by December 2019 (LIB) <br />Complete; Adulting 101 workshops, supported by a grant from the <br />California State Library, were completed in summer 2019, with five <br />interactive sessions held at the Downtown Library. <br />In progress; the Library was selected to participate in a statewide, grant - <br />funded initiative called Creating Racial Equity Initiatives (CREI) in libraries. <br />The CREI program includes three, two-day workshops that are being <br />attended by five Library staff members in the first half of 2020. CREI will <br />provide numerous tools to make the equity audit more effective, so <br />implementation will be delayed until the second half of 2020. Staff <br />presented an equity -oriented recommendation to the Library Board in <br />November 2019 to eliminate all daily overdue fines on Library materials. <br />The Board unanimously recommended elimination of fines as part of the <br />Fiscal Year 2020-21 budget process and this will be considered by the City <br />Council with the FY 2020-21 Recommended Budget. <br />In progress; launched the very successful Library Takeover program, <br />including 227 attendees at the first two of 13 events, to support vulnerable <br />communities including people of color; people with disabilities; seniors; <br />veterans; opportunity youth; and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and <br />queer (LGBTQ+) individuals. The Library Takeover program series will run <br />through October 2020. <br />Complete; the Library delivered its first About Face workshop in November <br />2019, and staff plans to hold additional workshops in collaboration with <br />local schools in 2020. <br />GUIDING PRINCIPLES AND GOALS 6 288 <br />
