In 2008, the City initiated a pilot program to test AMI
effectiveness. AMI proved to be successful in not only saving employee labor costs, byvirtue of automated
meter reading, but also by saving a significant amount of water through advanced leak detection and
notification. The material cost to convert the City's aging metering infrastructure to AMI is approximately
$7,500,000. The City obtained $300,000 in federal grant funding for AMI implementation and continues
to pursue additional funding opportunities.
City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcity.ore
92
