6.F. - Page 1 of 11 /<�ik Redwood CitylCallifornia Faunded 1867 Ago/ DATE: April 27, 2020 SUBJECT STAFF REPORT To the Honorable Mayor and City Council From the City Manager Agreement for support of the Redwood City Community Schools for Fiscal Year 2019-2020 RECOMMENDATION By motion, approve and authorize the City Manager to execute the Agreement for Service Between the Redwood City School District and the City of Redwood City for support of the Redwood City Community Schools for Fiscal Year 2019-2020 in the amount of $100,000.00. STRATEGIC PLAN GUIDING PRINCIPLE Healthy Community for All BACKGROUND The City of Redwood City ("City') in partnership with the Redwood City School District ("District") and the County of San Mateo ("County") agreed to assist the Redwood City Community Schools ("Community Schools") to sustain the programs at Hoover, Garfield, Kennedy, Adelante-Selby Spanish Immersion and Taft Schools. Community Schools provide an array of support services through school-based family resource centers and school-based programming. These services include access to public benefits, counseling, health services, educational support and community development activities. Community Schools were established to actively involve Redwood City residents, educators and human services providers in helping children to become successful learners and community citizens. This program is overseen by the Redwood City School District and is supported by Redwood City 2020, a community collaborative of which both the City and the District are core members. Community Schools reach students and their families in a way that few programs can do because they are strategically linked to the school communities they serve.
