6.F. - Page 2 of 11 <br />The program serves approximately 3,700 students, most of whom qualify for free or reduced school <br />lunches. The majority these students are learning English as their second language. Research shows that <br />Community Schools are successful in helping these students address barriers to learning and achieve <br />academic success. <br />ANALYSIS <br />Funds contributed by the City of Redwood City and the Redwood City School District support the core <br />operations of the Community Schools with $100,000 from the City and $195,000 from the District <br />annually. <br />At this time, staff is requesting that Council approve the agreement for FY 2019-2020. <br />FISCAL IMPACT <br />The City's contribution of $100,000 is included in the FY 2019-20 adopted budget. <br />ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW <br />This activity is not a project under California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) as defined in CEQA <br />Guidelines, section 15378, because it has no potential for resulting in either a direct or reasonably <br />foreseeable indirect physical change in the environment. <br />PUBLIC NOTICE <br />Public notification was achieved by posting the agenda, with the agenda items being listed, at least 72 <br />hours prior to the meeting. <br />ALTERNATIVES <br />The City Council may elect not to authorize the City Manager to execute the agreement.
