6.G. - Page 1 of 5 <br />/<�ik <br />Redwood <br />CitylCallifornia <br />Faunded 1867 <br />Ago/ <br />DATE: April 27, 2020 <br />SUBJECT <br />City of Redwood City Legislative Platform <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />STAFF REPORT <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Manager <br />By motion, the City Council Governance Sub -Committee recommends adoption of the City of Redwood <br />City 2020 Legislative Platform. <br />STRATEGIC PLAN GUIDING PRINCIPLE <br />Excellence in Government Operations <br />BACKGROUND <br />In an effort to actively engage the California State Legislature on policy items of importance to the City, <br />the City Council approved a state legislative advocacy and consulting agreement with Renne Public Policy <br />Group on December 9, 2019. One of the first initiatives for the City's legislative consultant was to develop <br />a legislative platform to create a framework for organizing the City's legislative interests. <br />Addressing the City Council's top priorities requires a multi -layered approach. By developing, <br />implementing and maintaining an active legislative advocacy platform, the City can take a proactive <br />approach in engaging on state policy areas of City interest. A legislative platform will also provide guidance <br />to the City's legislative consultant to make certain that state legislation of City interest is identified and <br />tracked and brought back to the City for further review and potential engagement. <br />The City's legislative platform is designed to be a living document that can evolve over time.
