6.B. - Page 1 of 8 <br />/<�ik <br />Redwood <br />CitylCallifornia <br />Faunded 1867 <br />Ago/ <br />DATE: April 27, 2020 <br />SUBJECT <br />STAFF REPORT <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />Approval of agreements relating to Port Attorney services <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />From the City Manager <br />By motion, 1) Approve and authorize the Mayor to execute a Memorandum of Understanding Between <br />the City of Redwood City and the Port Department of the City of Redwood City Regarding Port Attorney; <br />and 2) Approve and authorize the City Attorney to execute an Agreement for Legal Services with Francois <br />Sorba as Port Special Counsel. <br />STRATEGIC PLAN GUIDING PRINCIPLE <br />Excellence in Government Operations <br />BACKGROUND <br />City Charter Section 47f (Powers and Duties of the Board) subsection 17 gives the Board of Port <br />Commissioners ("the Board") the power to "appoint a Port Attorney who shall be the same person who is <br />at that time City Attorney and who shall continue to act as Port Attorney during such time as they may <br />continue to be City Attorney." <br />ANALYSIS <br />At the Board's meeting on April 8, 2020, the Board approved the attached Memorandum of <br />Understanding (MOU) Between the City of Redwood City and the Port Department of the City of Redwood <br />City Regarding Port Attorney.
