As you have likely seen, the City
Council will be hearing a staff report presentation at it's meeting tonight on a potential Phase I
implementation of a Slow Streets Program. The initial phase could include 11 street segments
geographically distributed throughout the community and based on specific criteria such as housing
density, communities of concern where access to private and public open space is limited, traffic
volumes etc. The streets would not be closed but rather signage would be posted that the public is
accessing the street's right of way during the shelter in place order. Emergency vehicle access,
access to residences and deliveries would still be permitted. The Cities of San Mateo and Palo Alto
are also considering similar measures.
I hope you will consider joining us for tonight's Council meeting as we discuss this item. You can
stream us live at www. redwood city. org. In the meantime, may you and your family stay healthy and
safe.
In community spirit,
Diane Howard
Mayor of Redwood City
(650)208-4774
From: Vivian Crisman <vhcrisman@gmail.com>
Sent: Friday, April 24, 2020 10:33 PM
To: GRP -City Council <council@redwoodcity.org>; PublicComment
<publiccomment@redwoodcity.org>
Subject: Proposed Slow Street Closure - concern with Redwood Shores street
Dear Council Members,
Thank you for considering closure of some streets to help promote social distancing while
exercising outdoors for residents. I am writing to express my concern for the street identified
in Redwood Shores, Bridge Parkway. Please do not close this 1/2 mile section of Bridge
Parkway because it is a high traffic street used by many who reside in the western section of
the Shores as well as a dangerous street to have one -lane in each direction.
Bridge Parkway is the busiest street in RWS used to connect Redwood Shores and Marine
Parkway, with two large subdivisions (Dolphin and Marlin Park) feeding off its center. The
walking pathways are already plenty wide and as a daily walker in this area, very rarely is it
busy that pedestrians have dangerously close situations. We are not a densely populated
community, and I have not found significant issues with social distancing. This is also a route
used by SamTrans.
