As you have likely seen, the City
Council will be hearing a staff report presentation at it's meeting tonight on a potential Phase I
implementation of a Slow Streets Program. The initial phase could include 11 street segments
geographically distributed throughout the community and based on specific criteria such as
housing density, communities of concern where access to private and public open space is
limited, traffic volumes etc. The streets would not be closed but rather signage would be
posted that the public is accessing the street's right of way during the shelter in place order.
Emergency vehicle access, access to residences and deliveries would still be permitted. The
Cities of San Mateo and Palo Alto are also considering similar measures.
I hope you will consider joining us for tonight's Council meeting as we discuss this item. You
can stream us live at www.redwoodcity.org. In the meantime, may you and your family stay
healthy and safe.
In community spirit,
Diane Howard
Mayor of Redwood City
(650)208-4774
From: Martha Cullimore <martha.cullimore@gmail.com>
Sent: Friday, April 24, 2020 4:08 PM
To: PublicComment <publiccomment@redwoodcity.org>
Subject: Bridge Parkway/Safe Streets Program Proposal
I note in your agenda that you are considering the inclusion of the bridge on Bridge Parkway
in Redwood Shores as part of your Safe Streets closures.
As a resident of Redwood Shores, I request that you reconsider this Bridge Parkway location
for the following reasons:
1. This bridge is on a regular route of Sam Trans.
2. The lower slopes of the bridge roadway are not visible from one side to the other.
Therefore, anyone walking or bicycling on the roadway will not be visible from vehicular
traffic on their approach to the summit. This puts the pedestrians or bicycle riders in peril of
being hit.
3. Redwood Shores has miles of wide trails, wide sidewalks and wide levee pathways on
which the residents are safely walking and riding now, while successfully socially distancing.
There are also wide walkways on each side of the bridge. The community does not need an
additional half -mile of roadway on which to walk or ride.
