From: Doug Crisman
To: PublicComment; GRP -City Council
Subject: Proposed Slow Street Closure of Bridge Parkway in Redwood Shores
Date: Monday, April 27, 2020 12:48:47 AM
Dear Council Members,
I am concerned with and would like to ask you reconsider the proposal to close one lane of
Bridge Parkway in each direction to vehicular traffic to allow pedestrian use of the closed
lanes.
The proposal won't do much to improve social distancing as the Shores is not densely
populated and there are walkways on either side of Bridge Parkway that provide adequate
room for pedestrians to maintain appropriate social distance.
In addition, the risk of pedestrians coming into contact on the pedestrian paths over the bridge
could be minimized by designating each path for pedestrian travel in one direction.
Finally, Bridge Parkway is a key vehicular route across the central waterway in Redwood
Shores and it would be risky to combine pedestrian and vehicular traffic in the same direction.
This risk would be accentuated by the fact that the bridge on Bridge Parkway is steep, making
the summit blind, which makes it a real possibility that a speeding car crossing over the
summit could come into disastrous conflict with pedestrians and cyclists on the other side.
Thank you for your consideration.
Douglas Crisman
561 Cringle Dr
(650) 703-9828
