4. INVOCATION — Pastor Dennis Logie, Police Chaplain <br />5. SPECIAL ORDERS: <br />Housing Our People Effectively (HOPE) Award: Council Member Pierce stated that <br />Housing Our People Effectively is a ten -year plan to end homelessness and that many <br />jurisdictions are undertaking this effort. Redwood City was recognized recently with this <br />award for doing the Homeless Connect in May, which is a one -day opportunity to bring <br />together over 150 homeless people throughout the peninsula and to link them with <br />service providers for food, housing, medical, dental, and other services. Teri Chin, <br />Director of the Fair Oaks Community Center (FOCC) was also honored with a HOPE <br />award for staff members. FOCC Director Chin stated her appreciation and said that the <br />award was a reflection of efforts that illustrates that it is a priority to continue serving <br />people in the community and do what we can to end homelessness in the City and <br />County. <br />Water Conservation Poster Contest - Participants and Winners. Mayor Foust stated that <br />the City had its 13 annual water conservation poster contest where local school <br />children drew and submitted posters on water conservation. She commented that this <br />fun and festive award illustrates an important and educational lesson for the youth. <br />There were hundreds of entries and these particular children's posters were found to be <br />the best to represent the importance of saving water for today and for the future. Mayor <br />Foust stated that the theme this year is being a "Water- saving Hero." Mayor Foust and <br />other Council Members presented awards to the children. Meanwhile, Public Works <br />Superintendent Ezell showed a presentation with each child's award - winning poster <br />(presentation on file).
