Mayor Foust thanked staff, the children, and the parents for their support and assistance <br />in promoting water conservation. <br />Mayor Foust, on behalf of the City Council and the community, recognized and thankec <br />retiring Public Works Superintendent Manny Rosas for his eleven years working for the <br />City. She commended him on his professionalism, tireless efforts, expertise, and his <br />legacy of helping make the City's water conservation program renowned. <br />Public Works Superintendent Manny Rosas thanked the Council for its support and for <br />funding water conservation programs. He also thanked the community for becoming <br />increasingly water -wise. Mr. Rosas announced the creation of a new water wise mascot <br />in the form of a water drop to debut soon. <br />Council Member Hartnett congratulated Public Works Superintendent Rosas and noted <br />that he had made one of the most interesting presentations on the various issues related <br />to water and toilets. <br />6. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS AND CONSENT CALENDAR - CITY <br />COUNCIL /REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY BOARD <br />Christina Lai stated that she has spoken with others who agree with her opposition on <br />the use of recycled water in toilets in elementary schools. She then read a statement <br />delineating reasons why she is against its use in schools and parks. She stated that <br />she and her supporters are asking Council to adopt a policy against the use of recycled <br />water in Redwood Shores' schools and parks. <br />Chet Yee stated that he was a member of the Recycled Water Task Force and <br />reiterated his belief that the use of recycled water in schools may be harmful. <br />Mark McLaren (with time donated by Camille Fisher) stated that he was a member of <br />the Recycled Water Task Force and read a letter (on file) that was submitted to Council. <br />The letter is from 12 members of the Recycled Water Task Force and states their <br />objection and goal of keeping recycled water out of schools and asks Council to not use <br />recycled water in Redwood City. <br />Mayor Foust stated that this item is not on the Council agenda so Council cannot <br />discuss it, but she wanted to note that she and Council Members Aguirre and Ira are on <br />the Utilities Committee and that Council Member Ira had some comments on the issue. <br />Council Member Ira stated that this issue has been discussed by the Utilities Committee <br />and that group is working on developing a policy on recycled water use and they would <br />like to bring it directly to Council along with their recommendation for a full vote.
