He stated that the committee is concerned about issues and that they would not <br />recommend something that would divide the community. In particular, the committee <br />will look at consistency, especially in regards to Area H. He stated that there is no <br />specific date scheduled for when this matter will come before the Council. <br />Mayor Foust stated that the next Utilities Committee meeting will be on January 9, <br />2008. <br />Bruce Potts, a resident of Redwood City for almost 35 years, stated that help is needed <br />regarding safety on the streets. He submitted packets to Council (on file) and related <br />incidents of a specific pit bull's attacks where other animals had to be put down due to <br />the viciousness of the attacks. He stated that he has contacted the Peninsula Humane <br />Society (PHS) but has not yet received adequate help. He submitted a copy of a <br />petition with over 50 signatures and stated that they would appreciate any help that <br />Council may be able to provide. <br />Mayor Foust stated that she left him a voicemail in response to his email and had also <br />heard from another neighbor of his. She stated that Police Sergeant Mulholland, <br />Interim City Manager Ingram, and the County Health Department have been contacted <br />to work together to address these issues and to ensure that there will be follow up. <br />Bruce Hamilton, Executive Director of the Human Investment Project (HIP) Housing, <br />stated that they had their 35 anniversary this year working to find homes for people <br />and those they directly served amount to 1,000 people a year. He stated that they had <br />their own drawing contest for elementary school children from Millbrae, Half Moon Bay, <br />Foster City, and San Mateo (cities rotate yearly) to draw pictures of their houses and <br />what it means to them, and that they select twelve of these pictures for their calendar. <br />He distributed copies to Council and staff and requested that they be posted <br />somewhere prominent. <br />Keith Bautista, representing the Redwood City San Mateo County Chambers of <br />Commerce, announced that the Progress Seminar will be April 11 to 13 in Monterey <br />and it is an important event for the County. He stated that there is only room for about <br />250 and already about 100 people have signed up. <br />M/S Hartnett/Ira to waive the reading of the Consent Calendar except the ordinances by <br />title, adopt the resolutions and the ordinances, and approve other items. The motion <br />passed by a unanimous roll call vote by those present. <br />Council Member Pierce stated that one of the items passed was the reappointment of <br />former Mayor Bob Bury to the San Mateo County Mosquito Abatement Board of <br />Trustees. She stated her appreciation for his many years of active service and she <br />noted that the Board has also stated how much it appreciates and enjoys his <br />participation.
