Mike Garvey stated that there were six awards presented this year and Redwood <br />City received two of them. <br />Mayor Foust thanked staff, Council Member Pierce, and the community for their <br />contributions and she stated that the awards will be displayed publicly. <br />B. Redwood City's New General Plan. (601) <br />Recommendation: <br />Provide comment and direction regarding the proposed New General Plan process. <br />Principal Planner Passanisi and Planning Manager Ekas took turns in showing a <br />presentation (on file) to update Council on the background and process to date. <br />Council posed questions and discussed, with staff, items that included budget, <br />timeline, return on investment, the roles and relationship between Council and <br />stakeholders, and concerns on how future generations may be impacted in terms of <br />conservation, climate change, and housing. Both Council and staff agreed that this <br />plan is very important and it will be time - consuming to work on. Council stated its <br />concerns on how it may affect staff so that it is not derailed while other work needs <br />to be done. Council directed staff to schedule regular progress updates in a timely <br />manner at future meetings. <br />Mayor Foust stated that on behalf of the General Plan Council Committee, which <br />includes herself, Vice Mayor Howard, and Council Member Pierce, they are pleased <br />with the community engagement and the interest from Council with the plan. <br />8. MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST <br />A. Legislation (information only) - This sub - section involves possible discussion of <br />City Position on Proposed Legislation described in the League of California Cities <br />Priority Focus Bulletin No. 44 -2007 and 45 -2007. Council may direct staff to act on <br />positions taken by Council. (Copies of League of California Cities Priority Focus <br />available in City Clerk's Department). <br />B. City Council Member Report of Conference /Meeting Attendance <br />Council member Hartnett stated his concerns about what had occurred under Oral <br />Communications regarding the topic of recycled water.
