The project will relocate
underground all of the overhead utility lines and remove utility poles on Middlefield Road and on
portions of adjoining side streets within the project limits. The project will construct all the
underground facilities (duct structures, junction boxes, manholes, vaults, etc.) necessary for the
relocation of the overhead lines. This undergrounding project has been planned and designed in
coordination with the Middlefield Road bicycle and pedestrian streetscape improvement project within
the same project limits. The removal of the existing utility poles will create more space for pedestrians
and bicyclists and will allow for improved access in the sidewalk areas.
On February 6, 2012, the City Council adopted an Ordinance (No. 2376) forming the Middlefield Road
Underground Utility District (MUUD) to provide for the removal and underground relocation of
Page 1 of 3
City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcity.ore
107
