This work will also include refinement and expansion of urban design work
supported by further conceptual engineering as needed. Phase II will culminate in a decision
by the City, JPB and District on a preferred station concept layout in downtown Redwood City.
This decision will be supported by public and stakeholder outreach throughout the Phase II
process.
Goals
Develop and select a preferred intermodal station concept layout in Redwood City that
supports the long-range transit service, infrastructure, and land use needs of JPB, District,
and the City.
Outcomes
Phase 0
• A matrix of rail service options for implementation of the Caltrain Service Vision and
Dumbarton Corridor service in and around Redwood City
• Highly conceptual (footprint) engineering of the rail infrastructure for up to three options
• An assessment of the options based on key outcomes regarding anticipated service
levels, ridership impacts, service quality, conceptual property impacts, and other high-
level factors
• An initial set of spatial parameters to inform potential land use and development planning
in the immediate station area
• Selection of up to three conceptual service and infrastructure options for further analysis
Phase I
• A set of "preliminary station concepts" that considers:
• Station elevation and relationship to adjoining at -grade crossings
o Platform configuration (including both Caltrain and Dumbarton Rail)
• Sizing, location and configuration of bus facilities
• Circulation and relationship of station elements to local streets, bus, bicycle and
pedestrian networks
• Station massing and basic (non -architectural) visualization of key urban design
features
• Conceptual property impacts and relationship of station concepts to surrounding
development
• Agreement on a preferred preliminary concept for station location and configuration
Phase 11
• Conceptual cost estimates and initial funding plan
• Project delivery strategy, including schedule, phasing, construction options, environmental
clearance strategy
REV: 05-07-2020 PR
ATTYIAGR.2020.071/SMCTA and JPB (Page 15 of 23) 183
