From: Christina Umhofer
To: PublicComment
Subject: Slow Streets Public Comment
Date: Monday, May 18, 2020 5:06:51 PM
Attachments: 3 Edgewood Pk SS Survey Results.pdf
3 Edgewood Pk SS Report.pdf
Good evening Mayor Howard, Vice Mayor Masur, and City Council,
I hope that this email finds you and your family safe and healthy.
Thank you to Farm Hill Neighborhood Association Chairwoman Johanna Rasmussen for
spearheading the District 7 (Farm Hill, Canyon, and Edgewood Park) survey. It has been a
joy to work with Johanna and I look forward to further joint endeavors with her. In addition
to Johanna, thank you to Amanda Wilson for her help with the Neighborhood Associations.
Attached you will find a District 7 led survey for Slow Streets for Farm Hill, Canyon, and
Edgewood Park neighborhoods. As Co -President of Edgewood Park Neighborhood
Association, I will only present to you the data for Edgewood Park.
Edgewood Park is a neighborhood that may not meet all, or even half of the criterias set
forth by the Slow Streets taskforce. However, it is a neighborhood that is used by
neighboring neighborhoods, San Carlos included, because of its quiet wide streets.
Edgewood Park is also home to numerous high-density apartment buildings. Therefore,
our residents should have the opportunity to voice their opinions on street closures within
their neighborhood.
The survey was posted on Edgewood Park Neighborhood Association and NextDoor
(Edgewood Park parameters) with 23 responses. Of the 23 responses 35% (8 residents)
had not heard of the Slow Streets program prior to the survey being posted.
I am pleased with the 23 responses we did receive and will look upon this as a learning
experience as a way to grow our Neighborhood Association. However, I am certain that if
Edgewood Park Neighborhood Association had more active leadership throughout the
years, we would have had better resident responses. Edgewood Park Neighborhood
Association has historically not held neighborhood meetings, and that should change
moving forward; especially since 35% of the residents responding had not heard of the
program.
Christina Umhofer
Edgewood Park Neighborhood Association Co -President
650-888-2975
