6.J.- Page 2of18
In July 2019, the City of Redwood City, as fiscal agent for Redwood City 2020, contracted with Aila Malik
DBA Venture Leadership Consulting to provide interim executive director services to Redwood City 2020.
Within the Redwood City's 2020 Executive and Leadership Council, a personnel committee was formed as
the hiring entity for Redwood City 2020. The initial contract with Venture Leadership Consulting was for
three months while seeking an executive search firm for the recruitment of the next executive director
for Redwood City 2020. The search was unsuccessful and therefore the City seeks to extend the contract
with Venture Leadership Consulting for interim director services and to execute a separate agreement
with Venture Leadership Consulting for additional executive recruiter services for the search of a
permanent director.
ANALYSIS
Due to an administrative oversight, the items were not timely brought to the City Council for approval.
We are now seeking approval for an amendment for the interim director services and a separate
agreement for the executive search of the next executive director for Redwood City 2020. Attached to the
staff report is an Amendment No. 1 that extends the original agreement dated July 3, 2019, for a period
of nine months, in the amount of $108,000, including City Manager authority to extend the agreement
for one additional three-month term, for a total of $180,000 for interim director services, and a separate
agreement for an additional $33,500 for the executive search, for a total aggregate of $213,500.
FISCAL IMPACT
No General Fund dollars are used for these contracts. Redwood City 2020 is funded through underlying
contributions from collaborative members and grant funding.
ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW
This activity is not a project under California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) as defined in CEQA
Guidelines, section 15378, because it has no potential for resulting in either a direct or reasonably
foreseeable indirect physical change in the environment.
PUBLIC NOTICE
Public notification was achieved by posting the agenda, with the agenda items being listed, at least 72
hours prior to the meeting.
ALTERNATIVES
The City Council may elect not to authorize the City Manager to execute the agreements.
City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcity.ore
409
