6.D. - Page 1 of 4
/<ik
Redwood
CitylCallifornia
Faunded 1867
Ago/
DATE: June 8, 2020
SUBJECT
STAFF REPORT
To the Honorable Mayor and City Council
From the City Manager
Award of contract for Redwood Creek Revetment Project at Bradford Street
RECOMMENDATION
By motion, approve, and authorize the City Manager to execute the contract documents and award the
standard form contract for the Redwood Creek Revetment Project at Bradford Street to Brannon
Corporation of Morgan Hill for their responsive and responsible bid of $213,446 and authorize the City
Manager to increase the contract amount, if necessary, up to 10% of the amount awarded.
STRATEGIC INITIATIVE
Public Safety
BACKGROUND
On March 25, 2019, the City Council approved the parcel map and the associated agreements for the
MiclPen Housing affordable housing development at 707 Bradford Street. The development, among other
public improvements, included a 360 -feet long publicly accessible creekside trail along Redwood Creek.
During the design of the creekside trail, it was identified that the existing sakrete (a type of ready mix
concrete) revetment near the Main Street Bridge abutting the future creekside trail is failing and warrants
replacement to stabilize the creek bank. The project then commenced evaluating the different revetment
repair options and an engineered low boulder revetment was chosen as the method of repair to avoid
having to pour concrete adjacent to the creek. During the final design and permitting process (from
different permitting agencies California Department of Fish and Wildlife, Regional Water Quality Control
Board, and United States Army Corp of Engineers) for the revetment repair, the City determined that it
was in the best interest of the City to fund and administer the construction due to the estimated cost
impact on the affordable housing project and the fact that the work will be on City -owned land.
City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcity.ore
M
