What are some of the challenges you are facing regarding your current situation of living in an RV? What are some barriers you face for waste disposal, garbage, sewage? • What is your definition of a "safe space?" • Safer in motor home than street. • Redwood City is talking to churches because pressure is coming to close the street. • Some RV's are safe to live in but not necessarily safe enough for an RV park. • RV resident: There isn't a lot of trust in the neighborhood — trying to avoid getting tickets. • If you move your RV and have another vehicle, you have to move that, too. Many RV owners also have cars. • Stigma around RV owners as "losers." Feels like a secret you have to admit to at this meeting. • Redwood City values all of its residents. • Lots of appreciation for people coming tonight. • Lots of trust with Redwood City leaders. • How can we encourage more RV residents to come to these meetings? • People in RVs living under a little bit of fear — may not answer their doors. • Redwood City wants people to feel safe no matter what their living situation. • Is there a central place for information or a blog about regulations? • Redwood City is glad to get email addresses of attendees to keep them informed. 2. What has been your experience with your neighbors? (Other RV dwellers and the Centennial neighborhood residents? • RV resident made friends with neighbors and even watches their homes when they're away. • Many neighbors are supportive of RV residents. • One neighbor is especially unhappy (harassment experienced by some RV owners). • Recent increase in RV residents — Redwood City feels safer than some cities. • Not everyone is operating at the same level of "functionality." • Lives in his RV when he's working in Redwood City — makes it possible. Has found an industrial area, so isn't coming in contact with residents, as some RV owners are. • Some "bad apples" are making it hard for those who are maintaining clean spaces and working during the day. 3. Given the City's goals, what are your ideas for short term and long-term solutions? • What can the Redwood City do to help the "bad apples" and also get the word out that not all RV residents are creating challenges? • Redwood City wants to build compassion for challenges, and let residents know they are listening. • Can dump black water and gray water waste at Trailer Villa (RV Park) in Redwood City. Can also get water tanks refilled ($25 x 2/month). ONLY 9am-5pm. Provide more free and/or low cost options throughout the City for "accessible, affordable" dumping and water refill. • Some people have families in their RVs. 429
