From:
Samanda M
To:
PublicComment
Subject:
Public Comment: Police for the Future
Date:
Monday, June 22, 2020 5:58:55 PM
Dear Council, I am writing in support of the many voices calling for reform to the police
budgets and policies in Redwood City and by extension, San Mateo County Sheriffs
Department.
We have an opportunity to be on the forefront of police reform. Let's be leaders and not
followers.
It is your duty, as stewards of our community, to respond to the needs of all citizens of
Redwood City.
I am standing in agreement with and calling for changes to:
Budget spends: Training for deescalation, bias training
Partner with Professionals: To better serve constituents who require mental health, housing or
other resources better provided by social service intervention in an effort to decriminalize
poverty and mental health issues.
Accountability: Community Oversight Committees - one that is a true reflection of the people
of Redwood City.
Thank you,
Samanda Maloa
