Andy Frisch commended Council for what everyone else had said thus far <br /> about the project. He stated that the process for this project has set a high <br /> standard on the community outreach process. <br /> Kamran Mahrouzadeh, a 27-year Redwood City businessman, stated his <br /> support for the Peninsula Park project as a great move in helping the whole <br /> City with the housing market. <br /> Steve Raney (with time donated by Dennis Blatchford) stated that he wanted <br /> to focus on the traffic-reduced housing for the Peninsula Park project. He <br /> showed a presentation on a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency suburban <br /> sustainability study with a focus on the Bay Area that he was the lead <br /> researcher on (on file). They want to provide priority access to new housing <br /> for green commuters and reduce green house gases at the rate of three tons <br /> of CO2 emissions per home per year. He stated that Mr. Powers, the <br /> developer, volunteered to pioneer this innovative project, from a Cool Cities' <br /> perspective, in getting people to move closer to jobs and be green <br /> commuters. <br /> Laura Biche, an almost 20-year resident of Redwood City, stated her <br /> concern that children will not be able to live locally but will have to move <br /> away. She stated that she was excited to have participated in the outreach, <br /> and that as a parent, there is the potential that when her children grow up, <br /> they can have housing locally to start their own families. <br /> Glenna Vaskelis, president of Sequoia Hospital, stated her appreciation for <br /> City staff and Mr. Powers for their educational outreach as they prepare to <br /> rebuild the hospital. She stated that they have over 1,000 employees and <br /> about 400-450 physicians. She suggested that they may be able to fill up all <br /> 796 housing units, cut green house gases with shorter work commutes, and <br /> some could possibly bike to work too. She stated her support for the project <br /> with housing being so hard to find and her hope that the project can move <br /> forward. <br /> Eric Biland, an 11-year resident of Redwood City, commended Couneil and <br /> staff for good public service and government. He stated that bringing these <br /> types of projects to Redwood City has an impact on multiple generations, <br /> echoing the sentiments of an earlier speaker. He stated his support for the <br /> project and envisioned enjoying the waterFront with his future grandchildren. <br /> Frank Bartello, a 21-year Redwood City businessman, stated this project has <br /> been thoroughly scrutinized, analyzed, modified, and examined by the City's <br /> planning staff and recently approved by the Planning Commission.
