Redwood City a more vibrant place for people to live and work. He urged <br /> Council to vote for approval on the project. <br /> Don Gibson, a Redwood City resident and Sequoia Union High School Board <br /> Member, stated his support for the proje�t. He stated that from a school <br /> board perspective, housing is needed, and that they lose teachers, <br /> administrators, staff, and sometimes cannot hire because people cannot <br /> afford to live in this area. He stated that we need these people for our long- <br /> term community and that this project is well planned out and an asset. <br /> Keith Bautista, who has lived in Redwood City most of his life and is a <br /> licensed architect, commented on finro aspects of the project: the aesthetics <br /> and citizen access to the bay front. He stated that the project's aesthetics <br /> would create a distinguished bay front facade and would bring Redwood City <br /> recognition amongst the community. He stated that the project would have <br /> varied heights and shapes, varied views, rich textures, and allow people to <br /> enjoy safe and easy access to the bay front by foot or bike with the improved <br /> pathway directly under 101 and the bridge directly over 101. <br /> Darlene Cowan, a Redwood City resident, stated that she has attended <br /> many workshops and Planning Commission meetings and she complimented <br /> these processes. She stated her support for the project as planned and her <br /> belief that it will be aesthetically pleasing, appealing to everyone <br /> fromdifferent age ranges, and for its close proximity to downtown. <br /> Jack Stephens stated that in listening to others, there seems to be clear <br /> broad support within the community for the project. He stated that there has <br /> already been a huge success in communication, outreach, and collaboration <br /> in developing the project plan and that he thinks it will be a fantastic project. <br /> James Jonas stated that he lives right next to the project site and his general <br /> support for the project. He expressed some questions and concems about <br /> the affordable housing provision, noise mitigation, and suggested acfiive <br /> noise monitoring of the site during construction. He stated a concern about <br /> how to address the flooding that sometimes occurs at the pedestrian <br /> crossing and questioned the possible impact of California legislation, AB 162 <br /> and AB 170, passed on October 10 to address flooding in California. <br /> William Nack, a Foster City resident and representing the Construction and <br /> Building Trades Union, San Mateo County with approximately 14 thousand <br /> workers, read a statement in favor of the project as beneficial to the <br /> community in providing needed housing, more restaurants, retail, boat slips, <br /> and in providing employment and apprenticeships for local union members. <br /> Mike Kastrop, a resident of and local architect in Redwood City, stated his <br /> support for the project.
