Seventy percent believe things in their city
are going in the right direction while only 15 percent think they are going in the wrong
direction. To put these responses in context, in previous surveys we have conducted on the
Peninsula, 67 percent of Burlingame voters and 70 percent of Daly City voters thought things
were going in the right direction. By contrast, voters are less optimistic about the State of
California. A March 2007 Field Poll found that only 52 percent of voters statewide thought
California was headed in the right direction and 38 percent thought it was on the wrong track.
Those voters most likely to believe things are going in the right direction were most likely to
include those who think the city does an excellent or good job managing its budget and
providing services, Asian-Americans, those aged 18 to 35, those who think the city should
keep the telephone tax at five percent and not reduce it to four percent, 11-20 year city
residents, new residents, those who consider themselves liberal and those who support the
idea of broadening the tax and reducing the tax rate.
-1-
