6.C. - Page 1 of 5 <br />/<�ik <br />Redwood <br />CitylCallifornia <br />Faunded 1867 <br />A,&/ <br />DATE: July 27, 2020 <br />SUBJECT <br />STAFF REPORT <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Manager <br />Award of contract for the Jefferson Avenue Intersections Safety Improvement Project <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />By motion, approve and authorize the City Manager to execute the standard form construction contract <br />documents and award a contract for the Jefferson Avenue and Cleveland Street, and Jefferson Avenue <br />and Clinton Street Intersections Safety Improvement Project to Gruendl Inc., DBA Ray's Electric of <br />Oakland, California for their responsible and responsive low bid of $733,178.00, and authorize the City <br />Manager, or their designee, to increase the contract amount, if necessary, up to 10% of the original <br />contract amount, for a not to exceed a total of $806,495.80. <br />STRATEGIC PLAN GUIDING PRINCIPLE <br />Transportation <br />BACKGROUND <br />Jefferson Avenue is an east -west, four -lane connector street with average daily traffic of about 18,000 <br />vehicles and a speed limit of 30 miles per hour near the project locations. In the past few years, community <br />members have expressed concerns with speeding and pedestrian safety along Jefferson Avenue. <br />In 2014, Redwood City School District collaborated with City/County Association of Governments of San <br />Mateo County (CCAG), the San Mateo County Office of Education's Safe Routes to School program, and <br />the City of Redwood City to conduct a walking and bicycling audit for McKinley Institute of Technology <br />and North Star Academy.
