incorporating a safer path when developing 505 E. Bayshore will improve the safety for cyclists and
pedestrians.
2) Safety When Driving: When driving over the overpass towards East Bayshore, drivers tend to
make an abrupt U -Turn as they are trying to get back on the freeway. There have been countless
times where I've witnessed an accident about to happen.
3) When Alan Steel is closed, their parking lot tends to attract unwanted activity. I've seen drug
deals, people dumping furniture, etc. This is not something we like to see when driving in and out of
our area or have to look at for weeks until a clean up crew arrives.
4) Homeless at Trail and Canal: The canal that runs along the back side of the Alan Steel company,
Century 21 and all the way through to Bair Island Road has been a refuge for homeless people.
Though I know this is a tough topic, the amount of trash, needles, feces, etc has been getting worse.
Perhaps there are more homeless people or that the area underneath the 101 freeway is completely
full. Regardless, what we see is troubling. Many families at One Marina (and the other communities)
take their kids along this path. You can imagine the scene is difficult to explain to children.
5) Housing for Those Seeking Ownership: We have several friends that love Redwood City for the
climate and proximity to both South and North Bay. I hear over and over again that they can't afford
a single family home but a condo is too small. Adding approximately 60 "for sale" townhomes style
residences would provide better opportunity for ownership.
In speaking to many of my neighbors in One Marina, we are hopeful that the residential community
that Sares Regis is proposing gets approved. We believe it would drastically improve the appearance
and safety in our area. We hope you agree!
Sincerely,
Jennifer Smith
636 Bair Island Road #303, RWC.
