The California Department of Housing and Community Development
estimates that the state needs to build 180,000 new units of housing annually by 2025 to meet
projected population growth - over 100,000 more units than we are currently building annually.
The 505 E Bayshore Road site is located directly adjacent to an area currently designated as
Mixed Use Waterfront. This designation allows for residential as a primary use. The project
proposes to expand the boundary of the Mixed Use Waterfront to include the 500 E Bayshore
Rd site, thereby allowing for residential uses. We feel this amendment is reasonable given
similar uses on nearby parcels with the same General Plan designation. In addition, residential
uses are appropriate if properly designed and strongly encouraged for this site given the
pressing need for housing in Redwood City and the region.
We recognize this project is in a relatively early stage of the entitlement process and has yet to
fully progress through the San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission
(BCDC) and the CA State Water Resources Control Board processes.
P 415.946.8777 353 Sacramento Street, loth Roor 1215 K Street, Suite 2220
F 41 5.981 .6408 San Francisco, California 94111 Sacramento, California 957A
