8.A. - Page 1 of 11 <br />/<�ik <br />Redwood <br />CitylCalifornia <br />Faunded 1867 <br />A,&/ <br />DATE: August 10, 2020 <br />SUBJECT <br />STAFF REPORT <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Manager <br />City Council Member Referral: Consideration of a Resolution Declaring that Black Lives Matter and <br />Reaffirming the City Council's Commitment to Racial Equity, and Consideration of Commissioning a Mural <br />or Monument Reflecting the City's Commitment to Racial Equity <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Consider the following actions: <br />1) Approve a resolution developed by the City Council Communications Sub -Committee declaring that <br />Black Lives Matter and reaffirming the City Council's commitment to racial equity and <br />2) Direct staff to provide analysis and recommendations related to commissioning a mural or monument <br />in a visible location in Redwood City that reflects the City's commitment to racial equity. <br />STRATEGIC PLAN GUIDING PRINCIPLE <br />Healthy Community for All <br />BACKGROUND <br />Council Member Hale has asked the City Council to consider two actions: a resolution declaring that Black <br />Lives Matter and reaffirming the City Council's commitment to racial equity and to consider <br />commissioning a mural or monument in a visible location in Redwood City that reflects the City's <br />commitment to racial equity.
