6.F. - Page 1 of 11 <br />/<�ik <br />Redwood <br />CitylCallifornia <br />Faunded 1867 <br />Ago/ <br />DATE: August 24, 2020 <br />SUBJECT <br />STAFF REPORT <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Manager <br />Final acceptance for Kennedy Middle School Safe Routes to Schools Improvements <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />By motion, accept the Kennedy Middle School Safe Routes to School Improvements and authorize the <br />release of bonds and retention according to City procedures. <br />STRATEGIC PLAN GUIDING PRINCIPLE <br />Transportation <br />BACKGROUND <br />On September 24, 2018, the City Council approved the Award of Contract for the Kennedy Middle School <br />Safe Routes to School Improvements to increase the safety of children walking and biking to school and <br />provide convenient paths of travel for all pedestrians and bicyclists in and around the school area. <br />Furthermore, the traffic calming measures also addressed safety and livability concerns, such as excessive <br />vehicular speeds on Alameda de las Pulgas, vehicles on Maddux/Goodwin unable to turn onto Alameda, <br />the long length of crosswalks on Alameda, and the failure of drivers to yield to children crossing the street. <br />In addition to the traffic safety improvements, the project also included green infrastructure <br />improvements to treat the stormwater runoff at various locations within the project area and a <br />bioretention area within the Kennedy School site. <br />Page 1 of 3 <br />City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcity.ore <br />
