First, let me say than
no candidate for the Commission has asked me to write a letter of recommendation for them. I merely
write as long-time citizen of Redwood City concerned with issues of affordable housing and affordable
home ownership.
After hearing each candidate's professional qualifications and specific interests in what they want to
achieve by being on the Planning Commission, I wish to share the following recommendations:
• Jeremy Smith. I found his strong interest in working on Redwood City's housing crisis to be of
note. In order for the City Council's Strategic Priority of Affordable Housing to be effectuated, I
believe that his work with the Coastal Commission is very relevant to serving on the Planning
Commission.
• Rene Alejandro Ortega. I recommend that he be provided the opportunity to continue working on
the Commission, as having spent just one year on the Commission to date, he now knows the
ropes. His work in San Jose with respect to affordable housing and homelessness seems highly
relevant.
Thank you for your time. I look forward to hearing the outcome at next week's City Council meeting.
Cordially,
Pat Willard
