From: Kati Teague
To: GRP -City Council
Subject: Agenda Item 7A (Planning Commission)
Date: Sunday, September 20, 2020 6:29:53 PM
Dear Redwood City City Council,
As a resident of Redwood City and as a renter, I feel I must speak up about Agenda Item 7A
for tomorrow's meeting.
I implore you to select Planning Commission candidates who reflect Redwood City's
demographics and who will consider the needs of its most marginalized and housing insecure
populations. Indigenous and Latino People of Color make up a significant portion of our
community but are largely missing in "the room where it happens," shut out from important
decision-making processes that may directly impact them. Renters are facing a major crisis
right now as our eviction moratorium has expired, COVID-19 relief tapers off, and many
remain unemployed; experience has taught me that homeowners are often disconnected from
what we face month to month, and I would like to see us better represented in positions of
power.
I hope to see a Planning Commission which views the needs of renters and marginalized
communities as urgent priorities. Without that, we risk becoming a skeleton of a city.
Thank you for your time and consideration,
Kati Teague
