From:
Janelle London
To:
GRP -City Council
Subject:
Please adopt the reach codes on electrifying new construction
Date:
Sunday, September 20, 2020 9:35:54 AM
Honorable Mayor and City Council Members,
This is to urge you to adopt the most aggressive reach codes possible regarding electrification of
new construction.
For us to have a hope of a habitable city and planet, we must lead the way on sustainable buildings.
As an added bonus, the community will gain cost, health and safety benefits by electrifying buildings.
I understand some people still think that cooking with gas is more important than clean, healthy air
inside the home and a healthy planet for future generations. The recent wildfires should have
convinced everyone of how critical it is to eliminate the use of fossil fuels. Luckily, cooking with
electric induction cooktops is an even better option than cooking with gas.
Thank you for your leadership in these unprecedented times. As go the cities in the Bay Area, so
goes the country. Your action in adopting the reach codes matters — not just to Redwood City, but to
the nation.
As Greta Thunberg says, our house is on fire. Please do the right thing: Work to put out the fire.
Don't fan the flames with more fossil fuels.
Sincerely,
Janelle London
