6.A. - Page 2 of 4 <br />ANALYSIS <br />The 2019-2020 Watermain Replacement Project in the Arlington Area will replace water distribution pipes <br />in the area surrounding Arlington Road within the Edgewood Park Neighborhood. <br />This Priority -Two project consists of replacing approximately 3,895 linear feet of deteriorated and under <br />capacity cast iron water pipelines with more durable and larger eight -inch polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipes <br />along Edgewood Road, Turnsworth Avenue, Woodsworth Avenue, Blandford Boulevard and Whipple <br />Avenue. The project will also transfer approximately 75 water service laterals and two fire hydrants from <br />old undersized mains to existing larger water pipelines. The water service laterals within the project area <br />will also be upgraded to two-inch polyethylene pipes. Four existing fire hydrants will be replaced while <br />two new fire hydrants will be added to the project area. Based on the bids <br />received, staff believes that the low bid is reasonable, balanced and recommends awarding the contract <br />to Casey Construction, Inc. <br />Construction should begin in October 2020 and conclude within 120 calendar days. Staff will notify all <br />residents and businesses who might be affected by the construction. Additionally, the contractor is <br />obligated to notify area residents and businesses two weeks prior to the start of work on each street <br />and/or two days prior to any interruption of water service.
