From: Morgan Chaknova
To: GRP -City Council
Subject: Public Comment re 4AA
Date: Monday, October 5, 2020 5:58:09 PM
Dear Members of the Council,
Regarding the report from the listening sessions on racial equity in Redwood City I want to
say that I see much of the report to be very positive steps from the initial response from the
city in response to the peaceful BLM protest in courthouse square.
I would like to emphasize and ask for consideration of instating a BCC with members of the
public rather than a city council sub -committee going forward. This is critical to engender
trust with the community and ensure there are voices represented in this critical conversation
that are not currently represented on council or in city or police department management. I
think this would go a long way to build two-way trust with the community and face some of
these difficult conversations, and build a work plan, on more equal, transparent and truly
collaborative footing.
I think the model the city used of a BCC/city council ad hoc working together on
homelessness and RV parking is a great model that could be adopted again.
Thank you for your consideration.
Best,
Morgan Chaknova
