4.A. - Page r (� Fc <br />PENINSULA CONFLICT RESOLUTION CENTER <br />• When I see inequity in RWC in Latino, Polynesian and black community are always <br />impacted the hardest: school, encounters with police - there's no trust with different city - <br />find ways to empower those communities - perhaps connecting to fly to learn their rights <br />• I can go to a meeting and know who will speak. Their voice is not at the table <br />• What the community needs is less PR and more action. <br />o This dialogue is great in that it lets people express their concerns but this has been <br />done before and there has been no follow up <br />o We need more action when it comes to including and protecting minorities. <br />• Racial equity is a national issue <br />o There is a lot of disparities in income levels and social determinants. <br />o We need to stop looking at minorities as just essential workers and need to elevate <br />people of color <br />• Less heavy-handed police approach to everything <br />o Police should not be in schools so Youth can be youth <br />o Lack of creativity when it comes to using tax payer money <br />o There needs to be more incentives for youth to succeed. <br />• As we are having community conversations- it's feelings combative- Struggling to listen <br />and talk better amongst ourselves- Teachers and students of color are upset- <br />• Inequity in schools need to be addressed by creating more diverse schools <br />• East Side Latino community voice is lacking <br />• Police brutality and harassment- getting stopped checking my backpack for drugs- then <br />went to Menlo Atherton and it wasn't the same for them- getting stopped for tail lights <br />being out or blinkers <br />• I felt like they wanted to impound our cars just to make money off of us <br />• People are scared and city government <br />• I feel like community see us (Latinos) as commodities <br />• They don't trust the police <br />• the feeling of having to be perfect for others to validate them (Not mattering) <br />• Make the school more welcoming- less than 10 students speak Spanish out of 90 <br />• Test for North Star- students could pass it <br />• The test is all in English- but if English is your 2nd language- it would be hard for them <br />• Not a direct connection with me but I saw a suggestion to improve policing that I would <br />like to share - when police are arresting someone and that person has their hands up and <br />if they are shot in that position the police officer should be prosecuted! <br />• How often are cultures and diversity being celebrated in the community? <br />• More collaboration - more inclusive of other cultures and ethnicities, there's a lot of <br />ignorance and the more we share and connect the better we can be as a community. <br />Individual change in terms of how we think <br />• In the school community and I'm Hawaiian and my school celebrates diversity and if we <br />were to learn of other cultures, the better! <br />• Salsa festival - Hispanic community celebration - better marketing for cultural heritage <br />because we need to learn more about other cultures - it would be useful! <br />• At my school we have a unity council and they plan cultural events and perhaps having <br />this on a city scale, city council can appoint people of different diversities to plan this <br />event <br />83 <br />
