4.A. - Page r ( Fc
PENINSULA CONFLICT RESOLUTION CENTER
• The fact that we are having these meetings, and bilingually, people need to do their part,
it is great that the City is doing this! I get emails from the City with a lot of information
(great continued communication, I appreciate it, getting specific news from RWC). Some
people don't have a computer, how to reach out to them? People are treated differently if
they speak Spanish, have an accent, look different. I thank you very much for this
opportunity.
• There is a racial divide between some areas. Only some populations can have access to
housing. (posted on the chat)
• Question: are all schools in RWC funded equally? If they are not, they would not have
the same opportunities, the materials, etc. What is it that makes a difference in equally
providing schools with resources, education?
• To the participant who gave the previous answer, question: That is a loaded question. I
am not comfortable answering that question.
• Answer: this is the exact platform to raise these concerns, questions. I have been given
the opportunity to participate in these sessions. This is something that the City needs to
address.
• As a person of color, I do have to worry about those things.
• Thank you for being here.
• What schools were closed? Four schools with predominantly students of color.
• Facilitator: what needs to change? Dismantling the whole system, to change the way the
whole system works. It is a pretty big movement. No one wants to disrupt the status quo.
The ones who want are protesting right now. I have to be very careful with what I say.
We don't want our young people to follow these steps. It is no accident that they are not
speaking right now. We have been conditioned not to speak. It does not feel safe to speak
your truth. That is what I want to change for young people.
• Almost everyone is an immigrant here. Important to have those values. There is
suppression. We don't want to dismantle the Country. This is the Country of opportunity.
Why dismantle the whole thing? People travel to get to this Country. In America you
have freedom, choice. Who gets the wealth if we spread it? It is great to have different
viewpoints, to have a diverse conversation. All groups, just go and get an education and
improve the system.
• I'd like to see change. Better school funding as well as better access to early childcare
and community college. We lost a lot of diversity due to housing cost. Mass equity. Need
more housing at all levels of affordability. Better use of public land. Government needs to
move faster on housing. More equity in school funding - make all schools better over
integration.
• When designing new projects, focus on the needs of community members being served.
Not just push out services.
• Need to center conversation on the needs/perspective of those being served. Listen to
organizations led by people of color for people of color.
• Look at how we can leverage technology to collaborate. How do we hold each other
accountable? Share best practices among community groups; Identify resources needed;
Don't leave it to the POC to lead the path. Allies needed to help break down systemic
racism.
.R
