4.A. - Page 11(!FC
PENINSULA CONFLICT RESOLUTION CENTER
• Human Library event at RWC library: multiple minorities get together — check out a
human (like a library) to explore `other perspectives'; rewarding experience; could RWC
expand the concept?
• Look at those communities where police spend most time; what are they actually
responding to? Then allocate resources to meet the need
• Affordable housing is key, and best use of space
• Need awareness of an issue. Need data about how big the problem is. It doesn't take that
many people to affect change.
• Use empty buildings for education pods so all kids, not just those of means have access to
small learning experiences during Covid.
• Do better outreach and engagement of boys and men of color so they are part of the
conversations and solutions.
• Look at programs like the one in Kalamazoo where all residents are given free higher
education, and replicate here in a county as wealthy as San Mateo.
• Look at new ways to fund education that is not so heavily dependent on property taxes.
This will allow for more equitable distribution of resources among all schools not just
those in high home ownership areas of Redwood City.
• Create programs like Rise in Richmond to provide program resources for youth.
• Healthcare — North Fair Oaks Clinic/Center underfunded and understaffed — need more
facilities like this to serve the low-income communities and bilingual communities.
• Need to be bold in approaches to fixing housing, healthcare and education.
• Need a real living minimum wage.
• City Council needs to keep residents safe and teach compassion and hope. More
dialogues like these helps but think of other ways to talk to the community.
• Collaborate more with nearby cities to solve big problems.
• I am for dismantling the system. When you have a President telling us to go back to our
Country. Not very welcoming. Not all people have the same opportunities. Students
• don't get the same access to resources (scholarships, funds for college, finish High
School) Corporations prefer to hire white people. Need for equal access.
• This discussion is about politics. We are supposed to talk about situations. Systemic
racism or incidental racism? Small percentage of the population participating in this
event, City needs to involve even more people, make this more accessible, to get more
people involved.
• Address the inequity at the school system, seriously, do whatever is needed, this is
foundational.
• School board meetings are open to the public. Go and give your opinions.
• Increase affordable housing, loans, food security resources, extracurricular activities
offered, could be a starting point.
• We can find solutions, to me this is a space where I can share my views, I thought this
was the place. This is what I really care about (even politics).
• There is no free lunch. We all have to work for it. City is in a deep economic crisis,
COVID 19. Concern about finances. Be careful with the money you are taking.
• Corporations in our area don't pay taxes and they benefit a lot.
• Even Pre-Covid difficult to build ties among the community. Wide diversity but
disconnect has become bigger. Big divide especially with Mexican -Americans with the
97
